What a great day. We prayed for sunshine, and boy was it beautiful (if a little hot)!

In case you were not able to make it out, we sang songs themed around five words of worship—words that are left untranslated in scripture:

Hallelujah — “Praise the Lord”

Hosanna —”Save, please!”

Abba —”Father”

Maranatha —”Our Lord, come”

Amen —”So be it”

Special thanks to everyone who invited friends and family out. The service was very well attended. I’m looking forward to August 1st, now!

It’s been a great Easter season at WSPC.

On Palm Sunday, we looked at the depth of the Father’s love for us—and what that love should engender in our lives.

On Good Friday, we joined together with the local Salvation Army Church for an important time of reflection, celebration, and participation in the Lord’s Supper. I shared a message on this famous passage:

I want to know Christ
and the power of his resurrection
and the sharing of his sufferings
by becoming like him in his death,
if somehow I may attain
the resurrection from the dead. (Philippians 3:10-11, NRSV)

Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die. If we want to share in the resurrection, we need to take up our crosses today.

I’d like to thank all of our brothers and sisters over at the Salvation Army for their warm welcome.

On Easter Sunday, we did something different and looked at the Life, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus through music, worship, scripture, and video. The service came to a perfect end when we all spent some time together over cookies and coffee.

Easter is the most important time in the entire church calendar. I believe that was reflected in our worship during this season.

. . .

Now it’s time to look ahead. Over the next couple months we’ll be making our way through the letter to the Colossians. It’s a very small letter—you can read it in about 10 minutes. I want to encourage you to read it for yourself before we get together next Sunday. Allow the Paul’s words to soak into your bloodstream.

Colossians is the perfect companion to Easter. Jesus lived, died, rose again, ascended into heaven, sat down at the right hand of the Father, and sent his Spirit to make us his body here on earth. What next? Colossians answers that question.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to make this Easter season such a special one for our church family.
